Forks Complex Update Tuesday, September 17, 2013
Incident: Forks Complex (includes Butler Fire ) Wildfire
Two community meetings have been scheduled to inform the public about the Forks Complex fires. Today at 5 p.m. a meeting will be held in Sawyers Bar at the Salmon River Restoration Council Office. On Wednesday September 18 at 5 p.m. another gathering will take place in Forks of Salmon at the Community Center in the Old Schoolhouse.
Fire Weather and Fire Behavior – A cold front is moving through today bringing cooler temperatures and higher humidity. Scattered showers are forecast at one-tenth inch in higher elevations with no wetting rain expected. Ridge top winds may reach 30-35 mph. A decrease in fire behavior is expected due to the cool moist conditions and no fire spread is anticipated. Heat is still present in areas of heavier fuels. Temperatures are expected to be warmer on Wednesday and Thursday.
Butler Fire – Light burning was observed in the China Creek area yesterday and staff are monitoring the area through Tuesday’s shift. Firefighters made excellent progress securing firelines with good depth in the Northwest perimeter. Mop up continues as crews remove equipment at Somes Mountain and rehabilitate handlines in the Northern perimeter. Many personnel and some air resources have been released. Due to this reduction of firefighters several divisions have been combined for efficient management.
Salmon River Complex – This fire remains in patrol status.
