Forks Complex Update September 14, 2013 8 AM
Incident: Forks Complex (includes Butler Fire ) Wildfire
Traffic Control on the Salmon River Road
Due to increased fire traffic on the Salmon River Road traffic control measures remain in place from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. between Butler Flat and Nordheimer Campground. For public and firefighter safety down river traffic going towards Somes Bar will be open on the half hour and upriver traffic towards Forks of Salmon at the top of the hour.
Fire Weather and Fire Behavior
Continued hot and dry conditions are predicted for today with smoke lingering at lower elevations in the morning. Sustained slow burning conditions are expected to help firefighters strengthen fire lines. A change in weather is predicted for Sunday with temperatures dropping 15-20 degrees and higher humidity. Winds will be S/SW initially shifting to SW/W with gusts to 30-35 MPH on ridge tops. Little or no rain is expected in the next few days.
Yesterday firefighters began defensive firing operations in the Somes Mountain area. A night shift of 3 crews continued operations into the evening working north from Somes Mountain in heavier fuels. Smoke may still be visible today as crews continue to improve and monitor the containment line. Today on the Southwest fire perimeter crews are expected to complete preparations in the Indian Rock area for a firing operation to be conducted when conditions allow.
The Salmon Fire remains in patrol status.
