Incident: Forks Complex (includes Butler Fire ) Wildfire
Klamath Type 3 TeamToby Herold Incident CommanderFire Information Lines:(530) 462 1518 or (530) 841-4451Traffic Control on Salmon River RoadDue to increased fire traffic on the Salmon River Road traffic control measures remain in place from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. between Butler Flat and Nordheimer Campground. For public and firefighter safety down river traffic going towards Somes Bar will be open on the half hour and upriver traffic towards Forks of Salmon at the top of the hour.Fire Weather and Fire Behavior Hot and dry weather is expected to continue on Friday providing more opportunity for defensive burning to strengthen containment lines. The fire remains terrain and wind driven. Lingering smoke in the morning at low elevations may moderate fire activity. Cooler temperature and higher humidity are predicted for later this weekend with winds shifting from the S/SW gusting to 25-35 mph on ridge tops. No significant rain is expected in thenext few days. Butler FireYesterday firefighters successfully completed defensive burning operations in the Orleans Mountain area. On the northwest fire perimeter near Somes Mountain crews finished preparations for today’s planned burning activity to strengthen fire lines. Residents may see smoke during theseburning operations. On the southwest perimeter crews have been preparing the area around Indian Rock for a burning operation as conditions allow. To date the fire has not crossed China Creek.Salmon River Complex The Salmon River Complex continues patrol and mop up to 300 feet.
Emergency Closure OrderA revised emergency closure order effective Sept. 11 2013 increases the area of Klamath National Forest land open around the Salmon River Complex and the southern portion of the Butler Fire. This means more land open for recreation hunting and firewood gathering. See link below for more details.Forks Complex Alerts> Increasing numbers of firefighters and equipment have renewed the need for traffic control on Salmon River Road. SalmonRiver Road will be open for down river traffic at the half hour and open for upriver travel at the top of the hour.> A Forest Closure is in effect around the Butler Fire and Salmon River Complex on the Klamath and Six Rivers NationalForests. The purpose of this order is public safety due to active pockets of fire within containment lines.
