Incident: Forks Complex (includes Butler Fire ) Wildfire
Defensive firing operations for Butler Fire have been initiated around China Gulch north of Mt. Whitney. Helicopters are taking sling loads of hot food and supplies to approximated 130 firefighters at the spike camp near Drop Point 5 on the northwest perimeter of the Butler Fire. Crews in the Northwest portion of the Butler Fire (Divisions W and K) are cutting snags in preparation for upcoming defensive firing operations to strengthen containment lines. Around Orleans Mountain crews are securing and holding containment lines.
Resources are available to safely and effectively complete the planned defensive firing operations. Resources will also be available for initial attack support on the Klamath and Six Rivers National Forests if the predicted weekend weather produces lightning caused wildfires. Controlled traffic continues for Salmon River Road. The road is open for down river traffic (toward Somes Bar) at the half hour and open for upriver travel (toward Forks of Salmon) at the top of the hour.
