Forks Complex Update
Incident: Forks Complex (includes Butler Fire ) Wildfire
Fire Weather and Fire Behavior - The weekend forecast calls for west winds temperatures 10-15 percent cooler and an increase in relative humidity. There is a chance of light precipitation but season ending rain is not expected. Hot dry weather with low humidity is providing an opportunity to strengthen fire lines with defensive burning as fuels are highly receptive to fire for full consumption. The fire remains terrain and wind driven.
Butler Fire - Some 130 firefighters continue in a spike camp near Orleans Mountain to reduce travel time to the fireline and decrease exposure to driving hazards. Yesterday’s defensive firing was successful in increasing depth and reducing lighter surface fuels to strengthen containment lines along portions of
the western perimeter north and south of Orleans Mountain. Preparation continues on a ridge south of China Creek to build a fireline to keep the fire from backing into Nordheimer Creek. Defensive firing will begin in the next few days when preparations are completed and weather conditions are favorable. A community meeting was held in Forks of the Salmon at the Old Schoolhouse Community Center on Wed. Sept. 11 2013 at 5 p.m. Fire managers the Forest Supervisor and Salmon/Scott District Ranger provided
an update on the Butler Fire and Salmon River Complex. Residents at the meeting discussed and agreed on the traffic control schedule for Salmon River Road.
Salmon River Complex – Patrol mop-up in isolated areas and suppression repair work is continuing in the Salmon River Complex.
Emergency Closure Order – A revised emergency closure order effective September 11 2013 increases the area of Klamath National Forest land open around the Salmon River Complex and the southern portion of the Butler Fire. This means more land open for recreation hunting and firewood gathering. See link below for more details.
