Evening Announcement: September 9, 2013
Incident: Forks Complex (includes Butler Fire ) Wildfire
Driven by E/NE winds at a steady 15mph in some drainages the ridge west of Butler Creek and southeast of China Creek are burning actively. Fire managers are planning defensive firing operations as soon as conditions are favorable for safe ignition. Defensive firing removes smaller selected areas of fuels in front of advancing fire as needed rather than extensive areas being lit in a single operation. Air operations will be supporting firefighters on the ground with helicopter bucket drops. The objective is to keep the fire within established west perimeter firelines with the challenge of the steady east winds. Residents in Forks of the Salmon may see increased smoke and active air operations through the evening if firing operations begin.
