Last night firefighters continued to provide structure protection for Butler Flat and Forks of Salmon areas and patrolled along the Salmon River to keep the fire from crossing the road. No planned ignitions occurred on the north end of the fire as the relative humidity was too high.
Today, firefighters will patrol and hold the fire containment line along the Salmon River Road and suppress any spot fires. They will also mop-up hot spots within 50 feet of the fire perimeter. Firefighters will continue structure protection within the fire area. Fire crews will continue line construction and prepare to support planned backing fire operations southeast of the fire. Crews will scout and continue indirect line construction south and southwest of the fire area. On the west side of the fire, crews will prepare to support future firing operations. Firefighters working on the north end of the fire, plan to complete backing firing operations on the ridge above Butler Flat, if conditions allow. Crews will scout for opportunities to construct direct line in Butler Creek.
Fire Behavior and Weather Conditions:
Burning conditions will be moderated with slightly above normal relative humidity values. A shift in winds will occur this afternoon, becoming northwest. Air operations will be limited by smoke until at least the early afternoon. Drainages will be smoky early today and may not clear out until later this afternoon.
