The following closures are in effect for the public, excluding residents within the closure area:
A Forest Closure is in effect for the areas of the Klamath National Forest around the Butler Fire and Salmon River Complex. To see the full Forest Closure, please visit: http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5430601.pdf
Highway 93 (Forks of Salmon Road) is closed at the Highway 96 intersection and above the Forks of Salmon store. No access to North Fork/Sawyers Bar Road is available at this time.
High humidity on the Butler Fire slowed activity enough to hinder planned ignitions last night on the ridge above Butler Flat. Today crews will attempt to light backing fires in this area if conditions allow. Structure protection actions continue in the Butler Flat and Forks of Salmon areas. They will continue monitoring conditions along the Salmon River Road to help prevent fire spread across the Salmon River. Firefighters are scouting for line contruction opportunities in the Trinity Alps Wilderness. Indirect line preperation actions are continuing on the south and west sides of the fire. Aircraft will be used as conditions allow.
NIMO Team (under Incident Commander Mike Quisenberry) assumed command of the Butler Fire today with Nor Cal Team 1, Friday, Aug. 16, 2013 at 6 am. NorCal Team 2 would like to thank all the residents from Hoopa to Somes Bar south to Butler Flat and past Forks of Salmon. Your understanding and support of our operations has reinforced our mission to help the people that we serve.
At this time, an Evacuation Advisory remains in effect in and around Forks of Salmon.
