Highway 93 (Forks of Salmon Road) is closed at the Highway 96 intersection and above the Forks of Salmon store. No access to North Fork/Sawyers Bar Road is available at this time.
The fire burned actively into the Horn Creek drainage through the night. Fire moving over the containment line above McNeal Creek stayed in check through the night but is expected to pick up as the inversion lifts. Firefighters in the area are assessing opportunities for containment up river from McNeal Creek, assessing point protection for structures, and working to keep the fire on the west side of the Salmon River. Crews on the north side of the fire are continuing structure protection in Butler Flat. As the fire progresses up Butler Creek firefighters may ignite backing fire to lessen the intensity of the active front when it reaches containment lines.
At this time, an Evacuation Advisory is being issued for residents in Forks of Salmon. During an evacuation advisory you should begin preparing for a potential evacuation order. Individuals requiring more time to evacuate should consider leaving now. You should also consider removing large animals and large personal items such as motor homes, boats, and heavy equipment.
A National Incident Management Organization (NIMO) team has been assigned to coordinate management of the Orleans and Salmon River Complexes. The transition from Norcal Team 2 to the NIMO team will take place Friday, August 16, 2013.
