Rogue River Closure Update August 14, 2013
Incident: Big Windy Complex Wildfire
Although the Grave Creek boat launch is open, boaters and visitors are asked to avoid the area when possible.
For the next several days, it is recommended that boaters floating the recreation section or down the river below Grave Creek use the boat launch at the Argo recreation site to enter and exit the river. This will help river users to avoid delays due to traffic congestion at Grave Creek boat launch. The Big Windy Complex is using the launch for loading and unloading firefighters and supplies, the location is also serving as a refill site for water tenders. Delays can be expected throughout the day but will be longer between 7 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Delays will continue until fire suppression efforts in the area are discontinued.
While the Rogue River Trail remains closed due to fire suppression activities associated with the Big Windy fire, Rainie Falls trail offers hikers and sightseers an opportunity to see and enjoy the area along the Rogue River. The Rainie Falls Trail is managed by the Bureau of Land Management and is open for hiking. The trailhead is located along Galice Road, on the south side of Grave Creek Bridge, across the Rogue River from the Grave Creek boat launch.
Visitors need to continue to be aware of current fire restrictions and suppression activities in the area. Suppression activities can cause delays and restrict access into areas that are normally available for public enjoyment.
