Wildfire keeps US 97 closed between Toppenish and GoldendaleDrivers encouraged to use alternate routes on State Route 14, SR 221 and Interstate 82
SATUS PASS – A wildfire continues to burn near Goldendale and keeps US 97 over Satus Pass closed to drivers.
Maintenance crews with the Washington State Department of Transportation are currently removing large trees that have been burned from the fire and repairing portions of burned guardrail.
Due to the nature of the fire, a reopening time is unknown. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes along SR 14, SR 221 and I-82.
WSDOT, Washington State Patrol and fire officials continue to evaluate conditions.The corridor between Toppenish and Goldendale has been closed since 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, when a wildfire threatened the highway in Klickitat and Yakima counties.
