Saturday August 24, 2013
Hardluck Fire - Shoshone National Forest
Fire Information: (307) 250-6867 or (307) 250-0148
Status: 24,648 acres, 0 percent contained.
Fire History: Reported by a fire detection flight on July 20, 2013, the fire was caused by a lightning strike within the days prior to the report. All structure protection and fuels reduction work on national forest lands at the end of the South Fork Road has been completed.
Objectives: Firefighter and public safety
Recent Events: Another day of cool cloudy weather kept fire activity to a minimum yesterday so the acreage has not changed. A Remote Automated Weather Station (RAWS) at Bliss Creek Meadows measured .68 inches of rain over the last three days.
Today’s Strategy: Monitor fire activity. Repair and maintenance of RAWS equipment near fire origin. Low potential for fire growth today.
Forecast: Isolated to scattered showers are predicted with a 15% chance of wetting rain over the fire area. Temperatures expected in the mid 60s to low 70s and relative humidity will be between 35 and 40%.
Closures and Evacuations: An area closure is in effect for the entire South Fork drainage beginning south of Aspen Creek beyond the South Fork Road (County Road 6WX).
