Incident: Gold Pan Complex Wildfire
The Gold Pan Fire was very active much earlier in the day since there was no inversion last night. The size of the fire was up to 15,012 acres by late afternoon including a ¼ acre spot fire east of the Hells Half Acre Road and other spot fires near Round Top Mountain. The Goat Fire, located southeast of Salmon Mountain lookout, had minimal activity today.
Special Notice: Stage 1 Fire Restrictions will go into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, August 1st. Prohibitions include the following: 1) No building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire without a permit EXCEPT in a Forest Service developed camp or picnic ground. The following actions are permitted: petroleum-fueled stoves, lanterns, or heating devices providing such devices meet the fire underwriter’s specifications for safety. A stove fire is defined as a campfire built inside an enclosed stove or grill, portable brazier, or a pressurized liquid or gas stove, including a space-heating device. 2) No smoking unless in an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable material. 3) No operation welding, acetylene, or other torch with an open flame. 4) No operation or using any internal combustion engine without a spark arresting device properly installed, maintained and in effective working order. Exemptions: 1) Persons with a permit specifically authorizing the prohibited act or omission. 2) Resident owners and leasers of land within the restricted area are exempt from above restriction provided such fires are within the residence. 3) Any Federal, State or Local Officer or member of an organized firefighting force in the performance of an official duty.Road Guards on the Magruder road closure are located at Fales Flat campground on the east and Observation Point (Idaho) on the west. Fales Flat campground remains open to the public.
Tomorrow’s weather is predicted to bring temperatures in the 80’s with 20% relative humidity.
Area Closure: There is a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) of seven nautical miles and an emergency closure in place surrounding the fire area. To see a map of the closure visit http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/3538/ . All forest service roads and trails within this area are closed.
Smoke & Haze: Smoke will likely continue to settle in the southern Bitterroot Valley, possibly drifting to North Fork and Salmon, Idaho. Several fires burning in surrounding areas are contributing to this situation.
