EVENING FIRE UPDATE

FIRE NAME: Emigrant Fire
DATE OF DETECTION: July 21, 2013
CURRENT SIZE: approximately 611 acres
LOCATION: South of Emigrant Peak, between Gold Prize Creek and North Fork Sixmile Creek
AGENCY: Gallatin National Forest
PERSONNEL AND RESOURCES ON THE FIRE: 3 Type 1 hotshot crews, 1 Type 2 crew, 2 helicopters, 4 engines and overhead for a total of 122 personnel.
TUESDAY’S ACTIVITY: Fire activity was limited to creeping, backing and smoldering. Minimal precipitation was observed over the fire in the afternoon. One Type 1 hotshot crew and the Type 2 crew were demobilized.
WEDNESDAY’S PLANNED ACTIVITY: A transfer of command from the Type 3 organization back to the local unit will occur Wednesday morning at 6:00 a.m. The remaining core local team will remain in place to monitor conditions and fire activity. When weather conditions change to hotter and drier and the implementation of ignition operations is planned, fire resources will be return.
FIRE WEATHER: Sunshine will dominate most of the day on Wednesday, but thunderstorms are expected by afternoon. Temperatures will be warmer with a high of 75 degrees, and the minimum humidity will drop to near 30%. Another disturbance will bring a more unsettled day for Thursday with cooler temperatures and an earlier start to the shower and thunderstorm activity.
CLOSURES & OTHER INFORMATION: Dailey Lake and most surrounding camping areas are open to recreationists through the weekend. Emigrant Fire Incident Command Post is located on a bench approximately ¼ mile north of the lake and that area is the only portion closed to the public at Dailey Lake Recreation area. Please be cautious of fire traffic on Dailey Lake Road.
The Forest Service portion of Sixmile Creek Road from its junction with the Dailey Lake Road will be closed until further notice.
The Sixmile Creek Trial (#61) and North Fork of Sixmile Creek Trail (#606) will be closed to their junction with Trail #601 north of Monitor Peak. Connector Trail #601 will remain open.
A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) is in place over the fire area to ensure the safety of the aerial fire operations.
