Lodgepole Fire Reaches 67 Percent Containment
Incident: Lodgepole Wildfire
Smoke from area wildfires gave firefighters a step forward yesterday with line construction in the White Valley Creek Drainage. Eight handcrews cut line, set up pumps and established hoselays which will assist firefighters with mop-up operations in the days to come.
The handline on the north perimeter was tied into the rock scree. This gives firefighters a safe anchor point to work from as they improve the line and extinguish spot fires that may be smoldering.
Line operations today will include moving supplies such as hoses, dip tanks and pumps out of the Morgan Creek Drainage and into White Valley Creek area. There is currently over 14 miles of hose is on the firelines that firefighters have used to hold the fire above Pats Creek and White Valley Creek.
Other large wildfires in Idaho have requested assistance with aviation support. Three helicopters were released today to support the Elk Fire burning near Prairie, Idaho. As the Lodgepole wildfire increases its containment, additional resources will be released to support other fires in the nation.
A transfer of command from the National Incident Management Organization (Houseman) to the Great Basin Incident Management Team Three (Whalen) will occur Tuesday at 6 a.m.
