Fire Update, July 21
Incident: Ridge Fire Wildfire
Yesterday, the fire actively progressed through thick vegetation to the north, east and west consuming another 970 acres. Smoke continues to impact Stanley.Containment work is focused on the western (upwind) flank of the fire and fire fighters have constructed a secure section on the southwest edge of the fire.
Fire managers are scouting natural terrain features and old burn areas (Red Mountain and Castro Fires) as potential locations for direct attack on the northern and eastern perimeters. Over the last few days, the Ridge fire experienced active fire behavior which has made it difficult for firefighters.
Yesterday the fire moved more north and east, providing an opportunity to establish another helicopter landing area and safety zones where an additional three hot shot crews were flown into the fire.
The Incident Management Team’s base camp is set up at Warm Springs Airstrip which is closed to general aviation traffic (emergencies excepted). There is also a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) in place over the fire area.
