A BAER implementation team is now working on treatments recommended by the BAER assessment team in July. Implementation includes surveying and laying out 413 acres in Kyle Canyon to receive aerial mulching; ordering and installing hazard signs for trailheads, roads, and recreation sites; and evaluating the Griffith Peak and South Loop trails for drainage and tread work. After last weekend’s rain and debris flow events in Kyle Canyon, the team is also assessing additional damage and considering new or improved treatment options. Drainage improvement work at the entrance to a Forest Service administrative site and Fletcher View Campground have begun. Undersized culverts at these two locations will be replaced with the minimum structures to mitigate damage from future debris flow events.
