Incident: Moon Lake Complex Wildfire
The Moon Lake Fire had active fire behavior yesterday with group tree torching, interior burning and backing fire. Crews made progress on structure protection in the area of Mansfield Lake Village. Today’s efforts will include improving structure protection at Mansfield Lake Village, Cathedral Rapids Area, and in the Fireweed Subdivision. Due to more accurate mapping the accurate mapping the acreage was reduced to 15,754.
The Alaska Incident Management Team will have a community meeting at the Tanacross Community Center on Monday, July 8 at 3 p.m. Team members will provide updates on fire status.
The Tetlin Junction Ridge Fire had active fire behavior yesterday on steeper slopes and along the northern flank. Retardant was used to limit fire growth on Tetlin Corporation Lands. Today, crews will build sawline on the northern flank and crews will continue to mop-up along the southern flank.
Big Timber Creek Fire continues to grow and has doubled in size over the past few days. Smoke may be visible from the Taylor Highway.
The Alaska Highway is OPEN. Drivers are urged to use caution and drive slowly around wildfire personnel and equipment. Updated information on travel conditions can be found at http://511.alaska.gov.
