The Hathaway Fire started on June 9th at approximately 1157 AM on the Northern portion of the Morongo Indian Reservation. The fire burned north into the San Gorgonio Wilderness on the San Bernardino National Forest. This area is very steep and rugged terrain, with significant tree mortality as a result of the 1999-2004 drought and bark beetle infestation.
Firefighters worked throughout the day, continuing to construct fire line around the fire’s perimeter. Line construction was nearly completed on the West and Southern flanks of the fire. The North and East flanks of the fire will be the areas of concentration during tonight’s operational period.
Road Closures / Evacuations:
There are no road closures or evacuations in the fire area
Gusty southwest winds will continue through late this evening, then will weaken overnight and shift to a west to northwest direction. Relative humidity recovery will be poor to moderate at higher elevations.
