Summary: There has been no new perimeter growth in several days. Yesterday helicopter water drops were used throughout the day to cool areas of the fire that threatened to become active as the burning period progressed. Most of the activity continues to be within the interior of the fire where unburned fuels continue to smolder and burn. Most of the rehab that can be done at this point in the fire has been completed. Today crews will continue mop up and patrol all divisions of the fire. A repeat of yesterday’s weather is predicted today as winds increase, humidity drops to single digits and warmer temperatures could contribute to increased fire activity within the interior which may create smoke plumes.
The Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team will continue fire damage assessments and present its findings at a public meeting tonight at 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm at the Valles Caldera Science and Education Center in Jemez Springs. For more information on BAER and directions to the meeting, go to http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/3430/ or call (707) 853-4243.
