Today’s Actions: Good progress was made on the fire today. Crews took advantage of increased moisture over the fire. Direct fire and bulldozer lines were constructed to tie in remaining active fire areas which include the northwest corner of Holy Ghost Canyon. Mop-up will continue in north, south, and southeast areas. Firefighters completed firelines around the spot fires in Holy Ghost and the cluster of spot fires on the east side of the fire.
The road block on Highway 63 is located at the Windy Bridge Day Use area at approximately mile marker 15.5. The road south of Windy Bridge is open. Due to heavy fire traffic, please avoid driving on the highway before 8:00 a.m. and after 5:00 p.m. Residents are urged to drive slowly and use extreme caution. Areas north of Windy Bridge remain under evacuation. Forest Road 92 two miles north of the Bull Creek road remains closed.
Tomorrow’s weather: Hotter, drier, windier, with a possible Red Flag warning. Temperatures will be 10% above normal, up to mid-80s. Relative Humidity 9-10%, winds W/NW 7-20 mph, with possible gusts up to 30 mph.
Smoke: Burnouts may be conducted east of Forest Road 92 over the next 48 hours, dependent on weather conditions. Smoke may be visible in the Las Vegas, Romerville, Mora and other communities east of FR 92.
Camp recycling program: There are over 1,000 assigned personnel in the fire camp. The team strives to meet or exceed federal and state environmental standards, such as recycling plastic, paper and cardboard. Non-perishable food items are being donated to local charitable rganizations.
