Today’s Actions: Crews were in Holy Ghost Canyon during the night providing structure protection. The hoses that were laid a few days earlier in the canyon were used to help provide structure support. The spot fire on the east ridge grew to 30 or 40 acres. Holy Ghost Canyon will continue to be one of the top priorities today. Crews will continue to build direct fire line along the west flank from Indian Creek towards Holy Ghost. On the north, crews will continue to build fire line to the east utilizing Forest Road 646 where possible. Crews will continue to construct line in the northeast portion of the fire to tie into Forest Road 92 in the southeast corner. Where lines have been completed, firefighters will work to hold these lines through today’s predicted dry, hot and breezy conditions. To date, no structures have been burned. The status of evacuations has not changed. The evacuation area is being assessed daily to determine when it is appropriate for evacuees to return to their property. Today’s Weather: Hot, very low relative humidity and unstable conditions will be the theme for today. Wind speeds will be a little lower than yesterday. Temperatures will be well above normal today.
Evacuations: 144 structures along Highway 63 beginning at El Macho church north toward Jacks Creek Campground. Forest Service campgrounds: Jacks Creek, Iron Gate, Panchuela, Cowles, Holy Ghost, Links Tract, Field Tract, Davis Willow, Dalton, Lower Dalton. NM Game & Fish Campgrounds: Mora, Willow Creek, Bert Clancy, Terrero. Six trailheads: Jacks Creek, Iron Gate, Panchuela, Geronimo, Cowles, Holy Ghost Voluntary evacuations have been issued for Cow Creek area residents The San Miguel Sheriff’s Posse – Pecos Rodeo grounds has been set up for pets and livestock.
Road Closures: State Highway 63 beginning at mile marker 12, north toward Jacks Creek Campgrounds and Forest Road 92 two miles north of the Bull Creek road. For specific information go to the Santa Fe National Forest Web site at
