WHAT: FUEL SPILL UPDATE
WHEN: TUESDAY, APRIL 30, 2013 (0800)
WHERE: STATE ROUTE 38 AT POST MILE 21 (JUST ABOVE ANGELUS OAKS)
On Friday, April 26, 2013, at approximately 9:35 a.m. a fuel tanker laden with gasoline and diesel fuel overturned on State Route 38 (SR 38) below Angelus Oaks. An estimated 4,000 gallons of fuel was spilled onto the roadway and the surrounding area.
SR 38 reopened on Monday, April 29, 2013 at 6:30 p.m.
Additional excavation and restoration work is underway and will continue over an extended period of time under the supervision of the United State Forest Service (USFS) and California Fish and Wildlife. All efforts are being made to avoid traffic control but expect some minor delays if it becomes necessary over the next week or so while they work near the roadway. Once the work near the roadway is complete it will continue on the slopes and in the creek until the land and water resource is restored.
