Prescribed Burning Planned Feb 24 Between Arbuckle Estates and Arbuckle Dam

Incident: Red Cedar Reduction Prescribed Fire
Released: 2/23/2013

Fire managers treated approximately 170 acres with prescribed fire in the South Boundary burn unit, between East Shalmar and Arbuckle Estates in the Chickasaw National Recreation Area on February 23. This brings the total to 2,350 acres treated since Feb 1, 2013.

Fire managers expect to burn approximately 330 additional acres before the end of the month. Fire managers plan to continue burning in the South Boundary unit between Arbuckle Estates and the Arbuckle Dam, on Feb 24. The burn will begin mid-day and may continue throughout the evening. The forecast is for southeast winds, which are expected to move smoke to the northwest. If you are traveling in the vicinity of the burn, please slow down, turn your headlights on, and watch for firefighters working along the road.

While smoke will be present in the vicinity during burning, it is generally expected to settle over the Lake of the Arbuckles and disperse overnight. If you would like to receive daily updates on which burn unit will be ignited and the predicted direction of smoke impacts, please call 580-622-7282.
