Big Valley/Doublehead Rds News Release

Bench Prescribed Burn on The Doublehead Rd

Incident: Big Valley/Doublehead Rds Prescribed Fire
Released: 3/19/2013

Modoc National Forest fire managers are planning to conduct prescribed burns in various areas of the forest as part of a continuing program to improve forest health, reduce hazardous fuels and enhance wildlife habitat.

Starting this month and continuing through the spring, fire specialists will monitor and evaluate conditions for the opportunity to implement the Bench Prescribed Burn located west of Tionesta and south of County Road 97 on the Doublehead Ranger District. The project area totals about 1,000 acres. Crews will work on smaller blocks within the unit pending appropriate conditions, the availability of personnel and equipment, and air resource board approval. Fire managers follow a burn plan that outlines the "prescription" or environmental conditions such as temperature, wind, fuel moisture, ventilation, and relative humidity that need to be met before the project begins.
