Red Flag Warning in Effect Today on Fern Lake Fire

Incident: Fern Lake Wildfire
Released: 11/27/2012

A RED FLAG WARNING is in effect from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today due to wind and low relative humidity. As of 8 a.m., the relative humidity was already around 20% in the fire area (9% at park headquarters) with winds gusting over 20 mph.

Today's forecast calls for a winds 10-20 mph, gusting to 40 mph, and relative humidity dropping to 9%.

Due to the high winds, helicopter operations will not likely be feasible today on the Fern Lake Fire. People along the Front Range will likely see smoke. The fire spread has primarily been on the western and southwestern side of the fire, between Forest Canyon and Spruce Canyon.

A campfire and smoking ban is in place for the backcountry east of the Continental Divide.
