Goat Fire Update 9/24 10am

Incident: Goat Wildfire
Released: 9/24/2012

Location: Three miles southwest of Pateros, WA.

Size: Fire acreage remains at 6,110 acres.

Cause: Human caused.

Containment: 10% at this time.

Land Ownership: USFS and Private.

Personnel: Approximately 460 personnel are assigned to the fire today.

Equipment and Aircraft: Six dozers, 9 water tenders and 27 engines are assigned to the fire. Two Type 1 (heavy) and 1 Type 3 (light) helicopters are assigned to the fire.

Injuries: No injuries in this reporting period.

Weather: Temperatures are expected to be in the 70's today; continued low humidity and light winds.

What's New: Transition of the Goat Fire from Oregon Incident Management Team #1 (Williams) to Washington Incident Management Team #5 (Leitch) occurred at 6am on Sunday. Night operations continue protection of structures and critical communication sites along Antoine Creek, Spray Canyon/Quiet Valley, and Alta Lake areas. Day operations continue reconnaissance, construction and strengthening of control lines; burnout; structure protection/fuels reduction along Alta Lake and in the Antoine Creek and Spray Canyon/Quiet Valley vicinities; and protection of critical communication sites. As always, firefighter and public safety is the top priority.

NOTE: Thru Sunday the Goat Fire was reported as part of the Okanogan Complex. As of today the Goat Fire will be reported as a separate incident and is listed on InciWeb as such.
