Karney Fire Update

Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012

8:00 PM

The Karney Fire, which started on September 17, is 95 percent contained.

Firefighters have been working on the remaining heat using the support of engines. Approximately 260 people are assigned to the 440-acre fire.

Tomorrow morning, the type 2 incident management team will return command of the fire to the Idaho Department of Lands. Crews will continue to patrol and cool any hotspots. The Wilderness Ranch Fire Protection District resources will also be patrolling the fire area for any heat.

Due to the proximity of the fire to structures and the dry conditions, fire managers have updated the estimated full containment date to September 25.

The Boise County Sheriff will be lifting the level 1 evacuation order Sunday morning at 8:00. The road closure will also be removed at that time. Fire vehicles will remain in the area. The public is asked to avoid unnecessary travel on Robie Creek and Wilderness Ranch access roads due to the narrow conditions and lack of turn outs until the fire is out.
