8:15 PM
Firefighters continued to make good progress on the 440 acre Karney Fire. (Acreage change due to better mapping) The fire is at 40 percent containment and 346 firefighters are working on the fire.
Today, hand crews and engine personnel mopped up hotspots, felled hazard trees, and began to repair fireline in areas where the fire is cold.
Firefighters will remain on the line tonight to patrol and continue to work toward full containment.
Residents of the Robie Creek and Wilderness Ranch subdivisions remain under a voluntary evacuation. Access to the fire area is restricted to local property owners only. Fire managers and the Boise County Sheriff will evaluate the situation daily to determine when access restrictions can be lifted.
The fire, burning about 10 air miles northeast of Boise, began Monday in scattered timber and brush and grew rapidly in the hot, dry conditions. Firefighters have worked tirelessly to contain the fire.
Fire related traffic should be anticipated on Highway 21 between Robie Creek Road and Idaho City. The public is urged to use caution when travelling in this area.
