The fire is 100% contained. Fire crews will continue to mop up the fire 300' into the perimeter and focus on fire line rehabilitation. Fire suppression rehabilitation is critical in the protection of watershed areas. The fire resulted in the loss of vegetation, exposing soil to erosion and increased water runoff that may lead to flooding and high levels of sedimentation of waterways.
A forest road closure is being implemented to protect public and firefighter safety during the Ward Fire. The area will be closed to ensure that the public does not enter into an area that is currently threatened by fire or where suppression rehabilitation efforts may be ongoing. The roads will be closed due to hazardous conditions, such as low visibility, dust, narrow and windy road conditions and increased fire operations traffic. These closures will remain in place until the area is safe for the public. Please see the Forest Orders and closure maps at http://www.inciweb.org/incident/3260.
