Wenatchee Complex News Release

Emergency Animal Shelter Opened, September 19, 2012

Incident: Wenatchee Complex Wildfire
Released: 9/19/2012

The Chelan County Fairgrounds in Cashmere is being made available as an emergency shelter for large domestic animals within the Squilchuck/Mission Ridge Roads Level 3 evacuation area. Instructions are to use the Kimber Road access and proceed to the Tillicum Riders area within the fairgrounds. Open the gate and secure animals in the arena. Owners must notify Karen Welch of the Expo Center (509-782-3232 or 509-679-7676) with a description of the animal(s) and the owner's contact information. No other services will be provided and the animals' owners will be responsible for all feeding and care while at the shelter. Stock trailers used to transport large animals may be temporarily stored at the fairgrounds as well. It is requested that they be parked so as not to block access to any facilities.

Small animals may be sheltered at the Countryside Veterinary Clinic, 405 Ohme Road, free of charge on the condition that the pet be current on all vaccinations. Pets not current on their vaccinations can be immunized at the clinic for standard fees. There is room for 16 dogs. Cats brought in sturdy carriers can also be accommodated. Space will be on a first-come-first-served basis. Specific information may be obtained from the clinic at (509) 662-4004.

Up-to-date information on evacuations can be heard on local media in Wenatchee or by checking www.inciweb.org/incident/3258.
