American Red Cross Update: Red Cross Continues to Provide Aid in Ncw

September 17, 2012, Wenatchee, WA - The Apple Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross continues to provide fire support for those affected by the fires in North Central Washington. Currently:
- The shelter at the Seventh Day Adventist Church on 5th and Western (Wenatchee) is open from 8:00AM to 9:00PM. Area residents are welcome to stop by the shelter for water, snacks, and meals, as well as to receive information about the fires and available Red Cross services. The shelter will be opened for overnight stays if requested by emergency management and/or any evacuated resident. Please call the chapter at 663-3907 or stop by the shelter if you are in need of overnight accommodations.
- The shelter at the Lake Chelan Senior Center (Chelan) is open from 8:00AM to 9:00PM. Area residents are welcome to stop by the shelter for water, snacks, and meals, as well as to receive information about the fires and available Red Cross services. The shelter will be opened for overnight stays if requested by emergency management and/or any evacuated resident. Please call the chapter at 663-3907 or stop by the shelter if you are in need of overnight accommodations.
- The Red Cross continues to provide mass care services in the form of water, food, and snacks to area residents. As of 5:00PM on Sunday, September 16th, the Chapter has served 279 meals and 2,873 snacks.
Due to air quality issues, any and all area residents are encouraged to visit either shelter if they need a respite from the smoke and haze. You do not need to be under an evacuation order to visit a Red Cross shelter. For more information about air quality levels, visit the Department of Ecology website at http://www.ecy.wa.gov/.
The community is encouraged to continue to support the work of the Red Cross by making a donation to Disaster Relief online at http://www.redcross.org/, over the phone with a credit card by calling (509) 663-3907, or in person at the Chapter office (12 Orondo Ave., Wenatchee).
HOW PEOPLE CAN HELP Those who want to help can make a donation to support those affected by the fires in Washington as well as wildfires across the US this summer by making a donation to American Red Cross Disaster Relief by visiting http://www.redcross.org/ or calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.People can also text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation. Contributions may also be sent to local American Red Cross chapters at 12 Orondo Ave, Wenatchee WA 98801. The Red Cross is unable to accept small, individual donations of goods or collections of items such as clothing, food, toys, furniture, medical or cleaning supplies.
