The Wesley Fire grew yesterday to the west side of Curren Mountain. The fire continued to spread into similar fuel types with some torching in pockets of subalpine fir. An Infrared flight later today will give a better estimate of how many acres burned. The northern portion of the fire continues to meet resource objectives and allows the fire to play a natural role in the environment. It is being closely monitored by air resources and fire lookouts for movement towards surrounding values, where fire suppression can safely take place.
Several crews have been demobilized from the fire as hot spots are extinguished and the fire is moving into a more passive patrol state. Rehabilitation of machine and hand line will continue over the next several days. Dry conditions and above normal temperatures will continue over the fire area through Friday.
The fire closure area changed yesterday (Oct 10th) with reductions on the east and southwest boundaries. The road to Black Lake (FS Road 112) is closed at the junction of FS Road 112 and Trail 517. Huckleberry Campground is now open. The Choke Cherry Flat Road (FS Road 158, Trail 178 and 179) is closed and is the eastern most boundary of the closure. Refer to the closure order and map on inciweb.org.
