Officials Enforce Closures on the Wesley Fire
An area closure has been issued for Boulder Creek, Upper Lick Creek, Upper Bear Creek and upper Rapid River. For more information regarding the area closure, please contact La Dawn Saxton at (208) 253-0151.
The Wesley fire is burning in upper Lick Creek, upper Rapid River and upper Boulder Creek and encompassing the Lick Creek lookout. The fire is estimated at 2500 acres and burning in steep and remote area with limited access to the fire. High to extreme fire activity was observed on the fire overnight as the fire continued to progress to the north-northwest, with isolated torching and spotting. The fire is burning in subalpine fir, ponderosa pine, and Douglas fir. The fire can be seen driving on highway 95 and 55 from; Council, New Meadows and McCall.
Today's plan is to continue with anchoring and securing fire line on the south end of the fire. Air resources will continue to use retardant and water drops as needed to assist firefighters.
Weather outlook for today: Gusty and dry conditions will continue. Expect sunny conditions with highs between 57-72 degrees; minimum humidities between 15-25%, and gust up to 18 mph. in the valleys and 24 mph on the ridgelines. Tonight will be clear with light winds.Later today the local Forest Type 3 Team (Schultz) will transition the fire to the Great Basin Type 2 Incident Management Team (Crocker).
