Sheep Fire News Release

Sheep Fire Afternoon Update - September 10

Incident: Sheep Fire Wildfire
Released: 9/10/2012

The Sheep Fire is active again this afternoon, with the influence of the gusty winds. The northern edge of the fire is bumping the ridge in Slate Creep, but resources are currently holding its spread in check there. On the western edge, the fire has burned down to the river from Sheep Creek to near the seed orchard. On the eastern edge, the fire has hung up in the topography. Air tankers are flying over the spot to the north of Slate Creek, dropping retardant.

A small fire broke out at the fire's helibase; helicopters and other resources responded quickly and extinguished the flames. This highlights the dry conditions; all are urged to use caution in preventing further fire starts.

Fire officials will host a community information meeting, tonight at the White Bird IOOF Hall at 7 p.m.
