Likely Fire Update Thursday, September 13, 2012 - 6:00 PM For Immediate Release Contact: Jim Wilkins 760 218-4316 Fire Status:Location: The fire is located on Tule Mountain within the Wilderness Study Area approximately 3 miles south of the community of Likely on Hwy. 395.Acres Burned: 9,859 acres Percent Contained:95%Cause: Motorhome Fire Date Started: September 5, 2012 at approx. 11:25 AMExpected Containment: Wed. Sept. 12, 2012 Expected Controlled: Sept. 16, 2012 at 6:00 AMInjuries: 7 Estimated Cost To Date: $ 3,871,691 Resources:Hand crews 10 Engines 2 Air Tanker 1 Helicopters 5 Dozers 2 Water Tenders 9Total personnel assigned to fire: 337Current Fire Situation: Dry conditions are expected to continue, with extremely low moisture in the vegetation and low relative humidity. Yesterday there was a half acre spot fire across the line which was quickly contained by firefighters on scene. Today firefighters continued working on any hot spots within 300 feet of the containment line to prevent the fire from spreading outside the line. Aircraft with infrared equipment flew over the fire area today to help crews identify any remaining hot spots. Today there were some isolated flareups in unburned islands within the containment perimeter, one of which was 2 acres. Current containment is at 95%. Crews are continuing to repair any damage that may have occurred as a result of fire suppression activities. Excess crews are being reassigned to other incidents. The reduction in acres burned is due to more accurate mapping. Incident Priorities: To provide for firefighter and public safety and protection of propertyTo keep local residents and the general public informed in a timely fashionFight fire aggressively while minimizing the impact of fire suppression To protect cultural biological areas of concernAdvisories: Moon and West Valley Lakes have been reopened to recreation. The fire is near the Modoc National Forest boundary, but there are no access limitations to the Blue Lake Campground or the South Warner Wilderness. Jess Valley Road is open. Hunting season has started. Hunters are asked to stay out of the fire area for their own safety. Fire restrictions are in effect on BLM and national forest lands, limiting campfires to developed and posted campgrounds and recreation sites. Vehicles must remain on established roads and trails.
