Likely Fire Update Wednesday, September 12, 2012 - 6:00 PMFor Immediate Release Contact: Jim Wilkins 760 218-4316 Fire Status:Location: The fire is located on Tule Mountain within the Wilderness Study Area approximately 3 miles south of the community of Likely on Hwy. 395.Acres Burned: 10,000 acres Percent Contained:90%Cause: Motorhome Fire Date Started: September 5, 2012 at approx. 11:25 AMExpected Containment: Wed. Sept. 12, 2012 Expected Controlled: Sept. 16, 2012 at 6:00 AMInjuries: 4 Estimated Cost To Date: $3,421,115 Resources:Hand crews 12 Engines 3 Air Tanker 1 Helicopters 5 Dozers 2 Water Tenders 10Total personnel assigned to fire: 389Current Fire Situation: Today there was a half acre spot fire across the line which was quickly contained by firefighters on scene. The remainder of the fire had minimal activity with some smoldering and isolated flareups. Crews continued to construct line, improve existing line, and mop up any hot spots within 300 ft of the containment line. Current containment is at 90%. Crews continue to repair any damage that may have occurred as a result of fire suppression activities. Demobilization of personnel has begun and excess crews are being reassigned to other incidents.Incident Priorities: To provide for firefighter and public safety and protection of propertyTo keep local residents and the general public informed in a timely fashionFight fire aggressively while minimizing the impact of fire suppression To protect cultural biological areas of concernAdvisories: Moon and West Valley Lakes have been reopened to recreation. The fire is near the Modoc National Forest boundary, but there are no access limitations to the Blue Lake Campground or the South Warner Wilderness. Jess Valley Road is open. Hunting season has started. Hunters are asked to stay out of the fire area for their own safety. Fire restrictions are in effect on BLM and national forest lands, limiting campfires to developed and posted campgrounds and recreation sites. Vehicles must remain on established roads and trails.
