Likely Fire Update Monday, September 10, 2012 - 8:00 p.m.For Immediate Release Contact: Jim Wilkins 760 218-4316 Fire Status:Location: The fire is located on Tule Mountain within the Wilderness Study Area. Approximately 3 miles south of the community of Likely on Hwy. 395Acres Burned: 10,000 acres Percent Contained: 65%Cause: Motorhome Fire Date Started: September 5, 2012 at approx. 11:25 AM.Expected Containment: Wed Sept. 12, 2012 Expected Controlled: No time givenInjuries: 3 Estimated Cost To Date: $1,686,100.Hand crews 15 Engines 20 Air Tanker 4 Helicopters 4 Dozers 7 Water Tenders 9Total personnel assigned to fire: 562Current Fire Situation:The Likely fire has been burning since September 5 in the Tule Wilderness Study Area three miles south of Likely on Hwy 395. Fire activity today was less then has been seen in past days and excellent progress was made in line construction and mop up as firefighters capitalized on weather that cooperated. Excellent progress on all divisions. The weather this evening is cooperating with calmer winds higher humidity and cooler temperatures. Crews will be working until midnight again tonight while conditions are favorable. Backing, creeping, smoldering and some isolated torching in islands of unburned vegetation.Incident Priorities: To provide for firefighter and public safety and protection of propertyTo keep local residents and the general public informed in a timely fashionFight fire aggressively while minimizing the impact of fire suppression To protect cultural biological areas of concernAdvisories:The fire is near the Modoc National Forest boundary, but there are no access limitations to the Blue Lake Campground or the South Warner Wilderness. Jess Valley Road is open. Hunters are asked to stay out of the fire area for their own safety. Fire restrictions are in effect on BLM and national forest lands, limiting campfires to developed and posted campgrounds and recreation sites. Vehicles must remain on established roads and trails. Moon & West Valley Lakes for recreation.
