SITUATION UPDATE
September 10, 2012
8:00 p.m.
Current Situation:
Evacuations and road closures have been lifted for residents of Barker Creek west to Big Creek Road, which involves Barker Creek Road, Meadow Lane, Barker Valley area, Duncan Road up to and including Duncan Creek Lane, Morgan Hill and Wild Things area and Wildwood Road. Because of heavy equipment and fire traffic, non-residents should not go into these areas.
The priorities today were to continue providing structure protection to the community of Hayfork, Hwy. 3, residences on Wildwood and Wild Things Roads and Morgan Hill Road and the Duncan Creek area. Firefighters constructed direct and indirect handline and burned out where opportunities presented themselves.
All flanks of the fire continue to hold. However there could be some leftover fuels burning in the interior. Firefighters continued to mop up on all flanks today. A burnout operation of fuel between two control lines occurred last night on the south-west corner in the Michele Fork of Kingsbury Creek.
Power lines have been reenergized to the residences on Wildwoods Road and in the Wild Things area. Power has not been completely restored past the residences due to snags that must be felled before lines can be reenergized.
The fire is being managed under Unified Command. Northern California Interagency Incident Management Team 1 (Nor Cal 1) along with an IC and support staff from the Shasta Trinity Unit of Cal Fire has been delegated responsibility for suppression of this fire.
The Red Cross evacuation center closed this evening. Travelers are advised to take extra care while driving on Hwy 3 due to fire equipment traffic.
The Happy Fire, which is located four miles northeast of Mad River, started on September 5, 2012 and has burned 75 acres and is a hundred percent contained. Crews will continue to patrol and mop up. Happy Fire personnel consist of 2 crews, 5 engines, 1 dozer and 1water tender.
