Incident: Black Tail Ridge Wildfire
Released: 9/4/2012
The Black Tail Ridge Fire started Sunday, September 2nd and is burning in the Combest Creek drainage, approximately two air miles south of Plains, Montana.
High winds Sunday fanned significant fire growth through the afternoon and evening, much of the fire being visible from Plains and the Sanders County Fairgrounds.

The fire is currently burning primarily along eastern aspects in the Combest Creek drainage on Montana Department of Natural Resources and Plum Creek Timber Company lands. Local crews and equipment, along with significant support from helicopters and single-engine air tankers (SEATs), have started to make great progress containing the fire.
Closures: For public safety, the Sanders County Sheriff's office has closed access to several roads in the fire area, including portions of the East and West Fork of Combest Creek Road. In addition, a Temporary Flight Restriction is also in effect surrounding the fire area.
