Yesterday's Activities: The very light rain that fell on the fire area yesterday afternoon will not have a significant affect on fire behavior, and analysts expect the next several days to be very dry and warm. Most of the fire was not very active, and crews mopped up, patrolled, constructed direct line, and scouted for future direct line construction opportunities. The west and southeast areas did have some moderate fire activity with large-group torching and short-range spotting.
Today's Activities: Greg Poncin's Rocky Mountain Type 1 Incident Management Team assumed command of the McGuire and Porcupine Complexes at 6:00 this morning. They will conduct a public meeting for Dixie residents today at 3:00 p.m. at the Dixie Community Center. Yesterday's overcast and rainy weather will be followed by several days of dry, sunny, and unseasonably warm weather. With more than 200 pumps and 125 miles of hose in the field, crews will begin the process of hauling out equipment today. They will start at the point furthest away from the fire at the Whitewater trailhead and the residences up- and downstream from the trailhead on the Salmon River.
Evacuations: Concord, Dixie, Comstock, Mallard Creek Ranch, and Cook Ranch remain under a Stage 3 evacuation. Orogrande, Red River, and Red River Hot Springs remain in a Stage 2 evacuation warning. Elk City remains under a Stage 1 evacuation alert.
Road Closures: The Crooked River Road (Forest Road 233), at the junction with Highway 14, remains closed to nonresidents. Dixie Road (Forest Road 222) is closed to all access, including residents, from Trapper Creek Road south to the community of Dixie. Twice-daily pilot car escorts are available for Dixie residents: enter Dixie at 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.; leave Dixie at 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Please call the information number or read the full announcement on www.inciweb.org/incident/3219/ for more details.
Forest Road 1190 from Trapper Creek to Dixie Summit is closed to all access, including residents. Forest Road 1190 from Trapper Creek and Forest Road 421 from Red Mail Box to the Whitewater area are closed to all nonresidents.
Area Closures and Fire Restrictions: The area closure around the fire has been extended south to include Comstock. From Whitewater it runs southwest along the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness boundary to Forest Trail 212, to Forest Trail 211, and ends at the Dixie Work Center on Forest Road 222. Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are in effect on the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests.
