Incident: The fire complex consists of the McGuire (contains the former Bagely Fire) and Herman wildland fires which were all started by lightning on 8/27.
Location: Five miles west of Dixie, ID.
Agency Jurisdiction: USDA Forest Service, Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests
Cooperating Agencies: Idaho County Sheriff's Department
Incident Commander: Shawn Pearson, Northern Rockies Type II Incident Management Team (IMT). The Incident Command Post (ICP) is located at the old Red River Ranger Station, with fire camp located in the York field at Red River.
Current Size: Complex is 26,002 acres (McGuire 26,000 and Herman 2)
Containment: 2% Structures Threatened: 623
Status: The fires are burning in stands of sub alpine fir & lodgepole pine with a large component of dead and down beetle-killed trees. There is very poor access to the fire areas with limited safety zones for firefighters. The Herman Fire located in the Gospel Hump Wilderness is monitored daily and continues to smolder. Stage 2 Evacuation Warnings were issued for the Red River and Mallard Creek/Cook Ranch areas on 9/09. The Idaho County Sheriff's Office issued Stage 3 Evacuation Requests for the residents of Orogrande on 8/28 and Dixie/Comstock on 9/03. Structure protection has been established in these areas.
Yesterday's Activities: Crews held and improved containment line on the south flank of the fire from Road 311 to the southeast flank along Road 1188 into upper Crooked Creek. Crew's patrolled along Road 222 on the north side of Dixie Summit looking for spot fires. Night operations continued with two engines patrolling in the upper Crooked Creek area.
Helicopters dropped water on hot spots in the East Fork of the Crooked River.
Current Resources: Twelve 20-person crews, twenty-one engines, four dozers, ten water tenders, and four helicopters. Total personnel: 497.
Today's Activities: California Interagency IMT 5 will assume management of the fire tomorrow morning. Firefighters will continue to hold and improve existing containment line on the south/southeast edge of the fire Patrols for spots along Road 222 will continue. Firefighters will mop up a spot fire at the head of Moose Butte Creek.
Tomorrow, temperatures in the 80s and low relative humidities are expected to generate very active fire behavior.
Restrictions/Closures: An Area Closure around the fire area is in effect for public safety. The Area Closure includes closure of Road 222 except for local residents of Dixie/Comstock. Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are in effect on the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests.
