Incident: The fire complex consists of the McGuire, Bagely and Herman wildland fires, which were all started by lightning on 8/27.
Location: Five miles west of Dixie, ID.
Agency Jurisdiction: USDA Forest Service, Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests
Cooperating Agencies: Idaho County Sheriff's Department
Incident Commander: Shawn Pearson, Northern Rockies Type II Incident Management Team (IMT). The Incident Command Post (ICP) is located at the old Red River Ranger Station, with fire camp located in the York field at Red River.
Current Size: Complex is 8,802 acres (McGuire 7,400, Bagely 1,400, Herman 2) Acres adjusted due to better mapping
Containment: 5% Structures Threatened: 150
Status: The fires are burning in stands of sub alpine fir & lodgepole pine with a large component of dead and down beetle-killed trees. There is very poor access to the fire areas with limited safety zones for firefighters. The Herman Fire is located in the Gospel Hump Wilderness with smoldering fire activity. Helicopter water bucket drops are available for suppression activities. The Idaho County Sheriff's Office issued an evacuation request for the residents of Orogrande on 8/28.
Yesterday's Activities: Fire behavior included short crown runs and spotting up to ¼ mile with an easterly progression, given the westerly prevailing winds. Fire crews are completing the structure protection work of clearing undergrowth using saws and establishing hose lays with sprinklers in the Orogrande area. Fireline was constructed on the southeast flank of the Bagely Fire using mechanical equipment and hand crews.
Current Resources: ten 20-person crews, seventeen engines, one skidgine, three dozers, three water tenders, and four helicopters. Total personnel: 367.
Today's Activities: A critical fire weather day with low relative humidity and gusty winds up to 20 mph. There are numerous spots between the McGuire and Bagely fires where there is potential for them to grow together. Crews will begin chipper operations of the cleared understory in Orogrande. Fireline construction will continue on the southeast flank of the Bagely fire. Structure protection assessments will begin in Red River and Dixie areas along Roads 222 & 234.
Restrictions/Closures: An Area Closure around the fire has been established by the Red River Ranger District for public safety. A temporary flight restriction (TFR) is in effect surrounding the McGuire Complex fire area. Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are in effect on the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests.
