Incident: The fire complex consists of the McGuire, Bagley and Herman wildland fires, which were all started by lightning on 8/27.
Location: Five miles west of Dixie, ID.
Agency Jurisdiction: USDA Forest Service, Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests
Cooperating Agencies: Idaho County Sheriff's Department
Incident Commander: Shawn Pearson, Northern Rockies Type II Incident Management Team (IMT). The Incident Command Post (ICP) is located at the old Red River Ranger Station, with fire camp located in the York field at Red River.
Current Size: Complex is 7,702 acres (McGuire 5,900, Bagley 1,800, Herman 2)
Containment: 0% Structures Threatened: 150
Status: The fires are burning in stands of sub alpine fir & lodgepole pine with a large component of dead and down beetle-killed trees. There is very poor access to the fire areas with limited safety zones for firefighters. The Herman Fire is located in the Gospel Hump Wilderness. Helicopter water bucket drops are available for suppression activities.
The Idaho County Sheriff's Office issued an evacuation request for the residents of Orogrande on 8/28.
Yesterday's Activities: Fire behavior yesterday included short crown runs and spotting up to ¼ mile. Fire spread was generally to the northeast due to prevailing winds from the southwest. Fire activity increased in the afternoon, hampering direct attack on the fire. Crews worked to establish medi-vac sites, access into the fire areas, and opportunities for a safe direct attack. Fire crews are completing structure protection work, clearing undergrowth using saws and establishing hose lays with sprinklers in the Orogrande area.
Current Resources: ten 20-person crews, fifteen engines, one skidgine, three dozers, three water tenders, and three helicopters. Total personnel: 377.
Today's Activities: A critical fire weather day with low relative humidity and gusty winds up to 30 mph out of the southwest switching to west is predicted with additional fire growth to the east/northeast. There are numerous spots between the McGuire and Bagley fires where there is potential for them to grow together. Crews will continue with structure protection efforts, establishing medivac sites and going direct when safe to do so.
Restrictions/Closures: An Area Closure around the fire has been established by the Red River Ranger District for public safety. A temporary flight restriction (TFR) is in effect surrounding the McGuire Complex fire area. Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are in effect on the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests.
