Released: 8/30/2012

Incident: The fire complex consists of the McGuire, Bagley and Herman wildland fires, which were all started by lightning on 8/27.

Location: Five miles west of Dixie, ID.

Agency Jurisdiction: USDA Forest Service, Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests

Cooperating Agencies: Idaho County Sheriff's Department

Incident Commander: Shawn Pearson, Northern Rockies Type II Incident Management Team (IMT). The Incident Command Post (ICP) is located at the old Red River Ranger Station.

Current Size: Complex is 7,002 acres (McGuire 5700, Bagley 1300, Herman 2)

Status: Shawn Pearson's IMT assumed command of the fire complex at 6:00 p.m. on 8/29. The fires are burning in heavy timber (sub alpine fir & lodgepole pine) with a lot of dead and down fuel. The lodgepole pine stands contain beetle-killed timber. There is very poor access to the fire areas. The Herman Fire is located in the Gospel Hump Wilderness. A fire camp has been established at the York field in Red River. The Idaho County Sheriff's Office issued an evacuation request for the residents of Orogrande on 8/28.

Yesterday's Activities: Minimal fire activity was observed yesterday due to cooler temperatures and higher relative humidity. Fire behavior included backing downhill and single tree torching. Crews worked on assessing and implementing structure protection in Orogrande. A community meeting was held in Orogrande.

Current Resources: Four 20-person crews, nine engines, one skidgine, one dozer, three water tenders, and two helicopters. Total personnel: 180.

Today's Activities: A Red Flag Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for strong winds of 10-20 mph with gusts to 30 mph. Temperatures today will be in the 70-80's with relative humidity in the low 20's. Expected fire behavior is continued backing downhill, burning in pockets of dead and down timber, and single tree torching. Crews will work to establish medi-vac sites, access into the fire areas, and will look for opportunities for a safe direct attack.

Restrictions/Closures: A temporary flight restriction (TFR) is in effect surrounding the McGuire Complex fire area. Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are in effect on the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. A Fire Area Closure for public safety is currently being worked on and will be finalized and implemented before the weekend.
