Parish Cabin Fire - August 29 PM Update

The Parish Cabin Fire is located 12 miles northeast of Seneca, OR, near the intersection of Forest Roads 15 and 16, burning on Malheur National Forest lands. The Fire is estimated to be 5000 plus acres, an infrared flight scheduled for tonight should provide a more accurate reading of the total acreage of the fire. The fire continues move to the east and does not pose a threat to the town of Seneca.

As of 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, command and management of suppression efforts for the Parish Cabin Fire is under, Oregon Interagency Incident Management Team 4 (OR IIMT4), Incident Commander Brian Watts.

Full suppression efforts are being implemented on this incident using direct and indirect methods while maintaining firefighter and public safety as the top priority.

Firefighters were able to take advantage of the cooler temperatures and lighter winds on Tuesday to make some good progress on the fire. Dozer and hand lines were put into place on the east and west flanks of the fire; an anchor point was established on the southern end.

For firefighter and public safety, roads in the area remain closed and road guards are posted. Checkpoints are located at the intersections of Forest Roads 15 and 1520, 1710 and 1619, and the 15 and 1540 roads; as well as Forest Road 16 at Biggs Ranch, and Forest Road 16 at the east end of Logan valley. The public is advised to remain out of the area due to fire activity.

Officials on Wednesday afternoon started escorting evacuees into the Parish Cabin area to retrieve their belongings that were left behind during the evacuations on Tuesday afternoon. Lake Creek Youth Camp, Parish Cabin, Murray and Big Creek Campgrounds remain closed.
