Millie Fire Remains Quiet
Bozeman, MT... There has been minimal increase from the estimated 10,515 acres burned on the Millie Fire and the fire remains 87 percent contained. Isolated pockets of fuel along the perimeter continue to actively burn and smolder. Areas of unburned fuel on the interior of the fire still contain hot spots which occasionally produce flare-ups and smoke.
Many resources were demobilized or reassigned yesterday. Today the recovery of supplies and equipment will continue and two spike camps will be cleaned and closed. One spike camp will remain, staffed by 17 fire firefighters. These fire fighters will be holding the northern portion of the remaining fire in the South Cottonwood drainage to the edge of a riparian area and patrolling the perimeter for hot spots.
The following drainages remain closed; Little Bear, South Cottonwood and Storm Castle.
USFS Bozeman Ranger District managers and fire management staff are reviewing the current status of the fire and the condition of access points to determine the suitability and extent of area openings.
