Millie Fire Suppression Efforts Nearing Completion
Bozeman, MT... The Millie Fire continues to burn in two isolated areas on the perimeter and is now declared to be 87 percent contained and holding at 10,515 acres. These isolated pockets are in steep rugged terrain and have been contained by natural barriers, a riparian area and rocks. A USFS Fire Use Module will remain to patrol and monitor the fire area.
The drawdown of resources will continue today with demobilization or reassignment of most assets. By the close of the day, one helicopter, ten firefighters and some support staff will remain assigned. Rehabilitation and improvement of the roads and many trails continues and should be completed by the end of the day.
The following drainages remain closed; Little Bear, South Cottonwood and Storm Castle.
Lifting or modifications to the closure orders will be initiated once firefighters and equipment have been cleared from the fire area, logistical helicopter operations have ceased and road rehabilitation completed.
