Heavy helicopters continued to hold the pretreated retardant line on the ridge top above South Cottonwood drainage. With reduced winds over the fire area, limited fire behavior was observed and crews continued to gain the upper hand. The Red Flag conditions that have been in place for the last two days will diminish this evening, and cooler temperatures and higher relative humidity will be present over the fire area tomorrow. Tom Suwyn, incident commander, commented this afternoon: "Over the past couple of days, crews have labored hard to keep the fire in check, and this is in the face of very uncooperative weather. We're most appreciative of their efforts." The fire is now 60 percent contained and remains at 10,205 acres. The Burned Area Emergency Response team was out on the fire conducting its first major assessment of the burned area. Specialists assessed roads, trails, culverts, and streams, and they took soil samples. Assessments will continue over the coming days. Currently, there are seven crews, 10 engines, five helicopters, seven dozers and one water tender working on the fire. A total of 344 personnel are assigned to the incident. A Fire Information Meeting will be held tomorrow night, September 12, at 6:00 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, 2152 W. Graf St. in Bozeman.
