Containment Increases to 25 Percent on Millie Fire

Incident: Millie Fire Wildfire
Released: 9/5/2012

Bozeman, MT - Crews had another productive day on the 10,196-acre Millie Fire, 20 miles south of Bozeman. The fire is now 25 percent contained.

Today, operations included improving fireline north and east from the Blanchard Ranch, and south from Telephone Ridge. The smoke lifted early in the day, which allowed aircraft to assist crews earlier. The helicopters helped by relaying information to firefighters on the ground about hot spots that needed attention.

Additional firefighters arrived, bringing the total number of personnel to 540. Resources assigned to the incident include four helicopters, 14 crews, 20 engines, eight dozers and four water tenders.

A change in the weather is expected this weekend, which may contribute to increased fire activity. Crews have been made aware of this potential change.

The next Fire Information Meeting will be 6 p.m. Thursday, at the Hope Lutheran Church, 2152 W. Graf St., in Bozeman.

To provide for firefighter and public safety, a forest closure remains in effect. Motorists are reminded to be aware of increased fire traffic along U.S. Highway 191 and to use caution around the fire area.
